Hi everyone!
Well I have finally caught up from the craziness of March and April. Had a fabulous event at Slimlines and stay in touch as I will be announcing more events in Edmonton for the end of June!
Let's get back to travel shall we? We were in Mexico in April so I think that will be next destination of choice for this bloggity blog...Oh and a quick tip...I finally bought new luggage and I love it. It's by Delsey and it's super light weight and durable. Got it on sale at the Bay for like 60% off! Great deal and great luggage...had to share!

Mexico....
I have now been to Mexico six times and it never fails for weather, that I can say is the best! Cancun, Mayan Riveria, Cozumel and Ixtapa have all been amazing places to travel. Favourite resorts The Royal in Cancun and the Las Brisas in Ixtapa. Send me a note if you want more info on them as they are incredibly indulgent and lavish!

At The Royal in Cancun they put on a Mexican night. I loved it! The show was absolutely mesmerizing for an archaeologist/anthropologist!

Hi everyone, I have taken a break from the travel pics to let you know about an event I am doing next week in Edmonton! I will be doing fitting appointments in Slimlines studio www.slimlines.ca on April 28th between 10:00 and 4:00pm. Please check out the event announcement below for all of the details...

One thing you might notice on the announcement is a different name and logo! That's right, Belo Sol is making a big change and slowly you will see a new website, blog, online store and ezine! It's an exciting time, let me know what you think of the new name and logo...Be advised the Belo Sol name is still used for website and email address for now and will ultimately be redirected, so don't worry you will still be able to stay connected to your favourite swimwear stylist!

Where did March Go?

Well as you can tell from my title, I have lost track of time and not posted for a really long time! March was crazy busy as all of you were escaping the Lion of March and heading to warmer climes. I also did the same in March as well as just getting back from Mexico on Sunday. So because I have travelled to two different locations (that I have been to before) I will post some pics to carry on with My Favourite Places to Travel.
I was recently in San Francisco in March for my husband's conference and for my birthday. Oh how I love San Fran, like so many others! Here are a few pics from my travels there...my best tip: Go to Buena Vista near Ghiradelli Square to have some Irish Coffees! Not only did we visit San Fran, but Mike surprised me with a Birthday trip to Napa Valley to of course taste some wines!

And here is one of those famous Irish Coffee's! Actually, a little tip that we got from our new found friend Jean, was to order a Venetian, it's made with Brandy instead of Irish Whiskey...so smooth...I got given the special little glasses for my birthday, so I will be serving up some of these bad boys very soon!

My Birthday with my Husband Mike and of course another special boozy milkshake...oh sooo good, my favourite ice cream is Mint Chocolate chip. I sure got it in this shake! Had these at the Burger Bar in Macy's on Union Square!

Every year after the conference there is a fundraising dinner called Augie's Quest. This is for ALS research and every year it is a tear jerker. Augie Nieto has raised millions for ALS research and has been living with it for 6 years. This is unheard of and his quest is incredibly inspiring. This is Mike and at the Fundraiser. Checkout www.augiesquest.org for his story.

At the fundraiser is usually a fairly big singing act. Can you guess who this is? Looks like a young Jack Nicholson to me! Haha It's Sugar Ray! Was lots of fun to dance the night away to the old Songs like "Fly Away"

Mike booked us in for a library tasting at Chateau Montalena. I've always wanted to go here after watching the movie Bottleshock. If you haven't seen it and you are a wine drinker, check it out. I loved it.

Although the weather wasn't fabulous...we had a chance to capture some rainbows over top of the "wine vines" as Mike and I call them...so beautiful

Time out from the wine tasting to go for a little beer tasting at the Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa. Although we love beer, it seems as though these 16 samples didn't tickle our fancy, we were stuck on vino!

Who knew there were wild turkeys in Santa Rosa!

We discovered a new Vineyard that we fell in love with...not only with the huge winery itself, but with all 85 varietals of wine! If you like wine and love variety they've got it. It's called Ledson and the owner actually built this house himself (contractor) and was going to live in it, but decided it would make too nice of a winery!

And of course the Golden Gate bridge...driving back the sun finally came out!

Creativity, Colour & Carnaval!!

It's cold....really cold and that's all we seem to every talk about, think about, experience, complain to others about...it's time to snap out of it and dream of more colour and warmer climes! Here's what I have done to add some colour to the house, while the outside stays white and cold...

Spiced up my poor lonely guitar, I figure if I put a bracelet on it, I will be more inclined to pick it up more often!

I was flipping through a few magazines last week and came across some articles in Food & Wine (my fav) and Oprah (second indulgence). Food & Wine talked about a woman who sees art in everything even her fridge! She uses her "perfectly lit and cold frame" to do art installations in. Instead of tupperware pieces, she uses beautiful old tea cups, pitchers and pots to keep her food in and then displays them as an art project in her fridge. I thought this was an amazing idea...then in Oprah they talked of using different spaces around your house to show off clothing, jewelry, accessories etc. And I thought, what another great idea. Now I will get to the point and to the pics of what I came up with during my afternoon full of creativity...

You all have probably heard me talk about the Beadtree before...www.beadtree.net One of my favourite artists is Carrie Hamilton as she makes the most amazing glass beads you will ever see. Her Mom, Judy Hamilton who is also a painter (and it's her B-day today! Happy B-day Judy), makes the jewelry from Carrie's glass beads. These two make up the most beautiful pieces a woman could have. I decided that they were too beautiful to sit in my jewelry box. So I have dressed up the house and with the ones that I didn't spread throughout the house, I draped lovingly over some bottles I had hanging around and put them on my dresser. Now I can see them every morning when I wake up! Got lots of scarves? Drape them from curtain rods or use them as tie backs! The possibilities are endless!

Now speaking of art, colour, warmth and just plan beauty...I will take you to my second favourite place on earth.

This week is Carnaval and if you are a reader of my blog in the past you will have seen some video from the Sambadrome in Rio where the main festivities take place. For the next week I will be putting up some beautiful pics and videos of Brasil, so that we can all focus some attentions on a warmer place...

My Favourite Place in the World

Hi everyone,
I have been MIA for a little while, still recovering from our fantastic event at Hotel Arts. Thank you all who made it out for a some Glamour & Gold!
To continue on with my Travel pic challenge, I have picked a place that is my most favourite location in the world. I was going to leave this one until last, however it has been in the news so much lately, I wanted re-live the experience I had there. And also send some positive energy to the people of the country. Now being an archaeologist by education and at heart, you may be able to guess where I am talking about before I show pictures...

No....nothing?

Okay....it's of course Egypt...
This was the ultimate trip for a passionate archaeologist and wanna be Egyptologist... I am only hoping that the change of government does not affect the protection of antiquities and preservation of the most amazing, beautiful ancient sites. I wish the best for the people of Egypt and I hope that democracy is the saving grace for all.

Now, if you happen to travel to Egypt, which I'm guessing won't be anytime soon, however I said I would give you a little tip for each place I have travelled:
If you go to Cairo and are in the mood for some great shopping, bargaining and food...head to Islamic Cairo, where the huge markets will blow your mind and if you are not careful your wallet too! My favourite place to eat was a little cafe at the entrance (sorry cannot remember the name...it was almost 9 years ago already!) it had a huge, amazingly delicious falafel that weighed over a pound and only cost 1 Egyptian Pound. Now, I hope it is still there because I will never forget that falafel!

We also met at random, an awesome cab driver that we stumbled upon who has been featured in Lonely Planet and has albums upon albums of letters, signatures, pictures etc. from all of the people he has showed around Egypt. This guy was amazing, we did not get to travel too far with him as we were leaving Cairo...I am still searching for him and will give you an update if I find him online anywhere. Such a happy man...I hope that he still tours the city collecting stories and making friends.

Arizona and The Green Bay Packers!

Hi everyone! To carry on with the travel picture challenge that I started last week, I'm going to post a few pics from Arizona, the reason I picked this blog to show some Arizona pics is because last year in Phoenix I went to my first NFL game...now if you know me or are getting to know me...I LOVE Football and I love the Green Bay Packers even more! And to make a connection with the Super Bowl that is happening this Sunday (4:30pm MST) I thought I would post the pics of me at the Packers game! University of Phoenix Stadium...it's amazing and there's my boy Aaron Rodgers!

Ok, so there are wayyyy bigger fans then me out there...This is outside of the stadium, great tailgating, shopping and bars. An awesome place to hangout on game day!

Yuma, Arizona has amazing little hidden spots, like the date farms (actually they are in California, but essentially on the border!) Sun Garden Date Farm makes amazing date shakes and you can try 6 different types of dates. Sooo good!

Although it is hard to see, there are actually miles of rock writing in the desert. People have been writing their names in the desert using dark lava rock since 1960. It's a pretty amazing site to see, the only type of graffiti that I can handle!

Yuma is surrounded with mountains, desert and every fruit and vegetable crop you can imagine! It's truly a beautiful place to travel to.

Travel is One of My True Passions...Where's Your Favourite Place?

I have a confession, I have lied to you! I do not want to take the "scarf" challenge...I don't have nearly as many scarves as hats and so the challenge would die pretty quickly. So I have changed my challenge to one of my true passions...Travelling! Although I have posted my travels in the past, I haven't really posted pics of all of my favourite places I have been. That being said, I want to know where your favourite places are to travel too. Please post your pictures of your favs here on my blog or you can upload them to the Belo Sol Swimwear Fan Page! If you post I will do a draw for a $50 gift certificate for the next 4 weeks! I will let you know by blog and status if you have been chosen! So please show me your travels!
I'm going to start with the place I just came back from:

Yes, you guessed it, Las Vegas. I have visited Vegas five times now and this last time was a trip for my grandma. She loves Vegas and so all of the girls in our family (we are missing some, however this is the group that went) took her so we could have a good time!

Every time I have visited Vegas it has been a different trip and I cherish every moment that I have had there! Hanging at the Mirage Pool with Mike, Scott and Tara; Hiking in Red Rock Canyon (Breathtaking), Watching Green Bay Play at the Sporting House with Mike and alone; Hanging out with the family on Freemont Street and watching the Light Show...it's all fabulous!

Here's a tip for you too ( I will try to include this with every post, a little travel tip) make sure if you are a gambler (!) that you pick up a Player's Card from your hotel or the casino you are in! You can go back to the Player's Club before you check out and see if they will give you Comps for your stay! The more you play the less you pay...well sort of! MGM properties are great for this...!

The Last Hat Blog...

Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you all had a fabulous holiday season and I wish an even better 2011! Well since it's a New Year, I think its time to switch to a different challenge. Although I will post my last hat pic today, I think I will move onto two challenges, the first challenge is to wear all of my scarves, pashminas and shawls over the next 30 days. I know I don't have as many of those as hats, but the collection is definitely getting bigger over the past couple of months. Oh and I was prescribed to keep my neck and shoulders covered by my new Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Dr. Tanya Hartz from "The Fire Within". Apparently, I have a lot of wind running through my body, which is not a good thing and thus we must increase the scarf usage! If you want contact details for Tanya, please send me an email or post a comment...she is awesome.
My second challenge is going to last more than 30 days, I am now embarking on a new body challenge with an end result possibly being a fitness competition. I will keep you posted on this as well, though the pictures will probably only be of the scarves for now.
So here is my last hat pic, my straw fedora meant for the summer sun and golfing too! I bought this one in Edmonton last summer and I love it. Here I am golfing in Palm Springs on the 23rd of December! Beautiful Jack Nicklaus course at PGA West...and the best part I shot the best round of my life! Must of been the new driver Mike bought me for Christmas!

I've been lackong once again in the posts, the weeks have been crazy! This pic was taken at the Oilers/Canucks game last week. Mike's team is the Canucks so it was our first NHL game in like 6 years! Ok, back to the hat: this one I bought in San Francisco last year at Fisherman's Wharf. Its big and comfy and I love wearing it!

I can't remember where I got this, but I think it was at a store in Kensington or maybe a flea market?? It's really old!! But still keeps my head warm and gives me that boho look! lol

Day 8...

So I ended up skipping Saturday and Sunday, although I did wear a hat on Saturday, I didn't take a pic, so I will add it in later. Here's today's little number:

So I did somewhat of a side view so you can see the cute little velvet tie in the back. This has an interesting story! Last Christmas I attended a shopping party at Current (awesome store on 17th Ave) and I saw this hat at the beginning of the night. I didn't grab it right away and then I had the girls searching the entire store for it later on in the night. Well, it was totally gone and we thought somebody may have stolen it. Just when I thought it was hopeless...my good friend and owner of the newly launched Cakewalk Designer Dress Rentals, Ava walked up to the counter with it. She had it in her hand the entire night and she ended up buying it! Grrrr....I thought about that hat for awhile and then low and behold, Ava held one of her awesome shopping events and was selling the hat at it. Turns out the hat did not fit her! So, I got the hat that I wanted for half the price too! hahaha! It was worth the wait! Thanks Ava!

Day 7!!

Well here's my Day 7 hat, wore it to go out to lunch. As you can see I'm standing in front of my new California Closet!! I'm so excited!
Anyways, back to the hats. This one I found in a vintage/anitque shop in Edmonton a couple of years while shopping and brunching with Carrie(www.beadtree.net) and Chris.
Its one of my many winter type of hats as it is chilly out there today!

Well, here is Day 4 of the Challenge. I chose to wear my "little black hat" because the clothing that I chose to wear today warranted something a little less "splashy"! That's why I bought this hat too, to cover up bad hair days and to go with any outfit I chose. I bought this one at the Mexx outlet in Deerfoot Mall...have you been there lately? I hadn't been until last year and I discovered the Mexx Outlet...sweet deal on the hat too, think it was $8.00??

Day 2 and 3 of Hat Challenge

Hi everyone,

So yesterday I wore my Green Bay Packers baseball cap, now I wasn't going to include my ball caps in the challenge, but my Packers hat is important! Here's a pic from the game I went to last year...cuz Football Sunday's I don't sport any hair or makeup...this pic is much better than what I would have taken yesterday! lol

Another thing I wanted to add to this challenge was to tell where I got the hat from...I love good stories, bargains and I love to "treasure hunt" so I will tell you where I got all of the hats from too!

Swimwear Care; Truth or Dare??

Have you done a Bikini Health Check lately?
Do you know the best way to take care of your swimwear skivvies?

Read below for some Swimwear Care; Truth or Dare to make sure your swimwear stays healthy and happy this summer!

Dare: You dare to leave your suit balled up in your bag after every daily swim?

Truth: Your suit (and bag) smells like a dirty pool change room and is starting to lose colour and integrity.

You are suffering from chlorinitis!
Here's some tips for the daily swimmer that will save your swimwear from a very short lifespan:
The smell of chlorine can live longer then the actual chlorine itself, so make sure when rinse or Soak-ing your swimwear that it has enough water and movement around it to allow the chlorine and dirt to rinse away. Try not to use chlorine-neutralizing products to wash your swimwear, as they do not take away the chlorine, only neutralize it within the fabric. This will only accelerate deterioration of the swimwear fabric. Try a double rinse/Soak if you do swim a lot. Rinse off in shower, then when you get home give a long Soak!

Always make sure to rinse and soak your suit after chlorine and saltwater exposure, in COLD water. Always, lay your suit to dry as well....never throw it in the dryer! The heat will deteriorate the fibres and cause stretching and see-throughness (I made that word up!).

Dare: You dare to slip into last years bikini without a "health check"

Truth: Last years bikini is discoloured, stained and possibly see-through?!

Check the Integrity:
Run your suit under water first, especially in the "bottom area" where a lot of wear and tear occurs. Stretch it over your hand to see if the fabric has become transparent, if so....sorry this poor suit has seen it's last beach. Retire it and come see Belo Sol!

Discoloration:
Most suits after prolonged use and lack of rinsing may become discoloured, although discolouration cannot be fixed, you may still be able to revive a little colour by rinsing and refreshing it with Soak wash. If the suit still fits well and is comfortable, I would say you can definitely keep it, but at the end of this year....please get rid of it!

Staining:
Spot wash with Soak wash or your favourite delicate's cleaner, rinse and lay to dry. Hopefully, that will get rid of the nasty stains that bring down your bikini bravado!

I had the privilage of meeting and hearing Matteo Becucci sing in Italy at the Moda & Oro Fashion Show two weeks ago! He is the 2009 winner of the Italian X-Factor Show and he is amazing. Oi!

Sorry I left that snowy picture up for sooo long! It was depressing wasn't it? Anyways, we are now on to the sunshine, bikinis, golfing and all of the fun stuff that happens when we can finally get out of the house! Thought I would list some events that are happening soon around Airdrie and Calgary.

Sunshine Village is hosting it's second annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research on May 22nd and a few ladies I know are participating in this fundraiser (by TopSKIING in their Bikinis!) and need your help! On May 19th, there will be a fundraising party at Ceili's downtown. $20 gets you one drink, appies and a Belo Sol Swimwear Fashion Show!

There will also be auction items to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Foundation!

Oi! So for some reason the video won't work...well maybe it's because I'm in a bathing suit? Might have been too offensive for some?! haha! Well, here is a model wearing the suit which can be tied 4 different ways for variety.

It's a beautiful suit, that hides some of the areas in the midsection without adding bulk and drapes perfectly to provide a great slimming effect.

Hi everyone!

Happy New Year...I have to start off by apologizing for not posting during the holidays. I had full intentions of posting some video blogs from interesting places in Arizona, however unfortunately my family and I were in a car accident last week which changed a lot of plans! Needless to say, we are all okay, just some whiplash, bumps and bruises. I still am going to chat a little about Arizona though as there are some really interesting places there that I love! Instead of a video blog I will show a few pics and tell you about them.

The Imperial Dunes Recreational Area

This is a huge area that actually is in California, just past the Mexico/Arizona border. The Sand Dunes cover approximately 40 miles of land and are loved by off road enthusiasts (as you can see a quad in the background). The Dunes formed from windblown sands from an ancient lake named Lake Cahuilla. Now here's a trivia question for you, post a comment or send me an email and let me know the answer...I will send you a Starbucks Gift Card if you are the first to get it right. What cult classic "sci-fi" sequel was filmed in and around Yuma, Arizona and the Imperial Dunes? No hints here...okay maybe one...a famous "gold bikini" was worn in the very first film to come out...hmmmm...

I will be back with a few more fun travel facts from Arizona in the next few days and give you some pics of the new collections arriving in the next couple of weeks! Lots of exciting things to come!

Fabulous Miami Show

Oi!

The show has wrapped up and I was very successful in finding some more amazing companies to add to Belo Sol's already unique repetoire of beautiful swimwear. I have found three great companies that specialize in bra sized seperates going up to and F cup! So exciting to be able to fit ladies of all sizes and shapes, and still offer beautiful and unique designs. I have met some amazing people as well this week from first time designers, my friends from Brazil (again) and some even more interesting South Beachers! I scheduled in some beach time which I just came back from, here are a few pics of Miami Beach, I love the old Art Deco buildings...so 50's like and of course beautiful palm trees everywhere....and then the beloved beach!

I am here in Miami just about to head out to a "Kick Off Cocktail Event" for the Miami Swimwear Show. I am here on a mission to find some unique and beautiful collections for the more voluptuous lady, some hot one pieces and some fun and funky beachwear! I am excited to be able to expand the collections that Belo Sol already has so that everyone of my clients can benefit from the Belo Sol concept.

I told you I would keep reminding you about Breakfast Television! Tune tomorrow at 9:40 to check out Belo Sol and Swimwear Tips! Channel 8 for everyone in Calgary!

I promised awhile ago to show you a creative, fun and "green" product that I found in Brazil, so here it is finally:
This is a purse made out of pop can tops! It's so cute and versatile as it can be used three different ways; a longer strap purse, a shorter strap purse and as a clutch. All you have to do is pull or push it to get the different looks. I think it is so cute and so "green" I love the idea!

I'm off to get prepped for the show and maybe take advantage of the Airdrie Farmer's Market today at 3:30. If you are in the area, the market runs from 3:30 to 7:00 every Wednesday at the Airdrie Legion! I am excited that it is back, can't wait for fresh vegetables and fruit!

Happy Birthday Bikini!

Just a quick post to say Happy Birthday to the Bikini! July 5th (I know a day late, so sorry bikini!), 1946 when Louis Reard debut the bikini. Here are a few bikini facts to impress your friends with while drinking Margaritas on the patio this summer:

Bikini was named after the Bikini Atoll where nuclear bombs were being tested, he thought that the reaction to the bikini would be the same as the bomb exploding in Japan a year earlier
The first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition was released in 1964
Bikinis in Space: Maxim created a 33 metre wide bikini out of vinyl mesh in the desert that apparently could be seen from space

There's just a few facts to chat about this summer. I think I will start adding one bikini fact on each post and on my Swim-zines...so you can keep impressing your friends of course!

Burn Calories by Trying on Swimwear!

Well coming off a CRAZY couple of weeks and now going into Fashion Business/Rio today! We are off to find more new and wonderful additions to the Belo Sol collections. Stay tuned the next couple of weeks for some updates direct from Rio!
Now getting to the title...A couple of weeks ago I picked up an old magazine that talked about "Creative Ways to Burn 100 Calories," well I had to share a few of them with including my favourite:

Find the Perfect Teeny-weeny polka dot bikini...Try on 16 suits from Belo Sol (one every 3 minutes!)

So there you go, book that private appointment or party in June or July and I will guarantee that you will burn 100 calories! How's that for a sales pitch!

Here's a few others that I thought were great to share and that may do while I am in Brazil:

Spend 17 minutes wrestling the beach ball away from your boyfriend/husband
Shop during lunch hour while carrying a 7 pound bag and new purchases, of course
Wait in an airport security line for 15 minutes, walk through the metal detector once, lift and lower a 40 pound suitcase twice, then run for 3 minutes to catch your flight! (hopefully won't have to do this!)
Slather on lip balm 765 times! (In Calgary, this is a given!)

As Featured in Vogue!

Oi!

I have finally been able to bring you the most exciting news for Belo Sol that I had mentioned a couple of weeks ago! The Vogue issue that I am in, has been sent to me...so without further ado...

It is so exciting to actually see Belo Sol featured in a magazine! The picture in the end didn't turn out as bad as I thought! Whew!

The collection from SIRI, which I mention in the interview, has arrived now! It is beautiful and I can't wait for all of you to see it! I also have cute kids swimwear in stock now too! Brand new Havaianas arrived the other day as well! I am so excited to be able to offer all of these beautiful new collections to you!

I am off now as I have party and then off to Edmonton for the weekend, I will leave you with a fun tip that I learned on Ellen today:

For bikini ready thighs and bum, take firming cream that you would use for your face and place on problem areas along with the morning's coffee grounds. Supposed to give some lift and firm out those pesky areas...just make sure you rinse off before going to pool ;)

Oi!

Well, the sun has finally come out here, so I am more inclined to chat about bikinis again! It has been a crazy couple of weeks and now it is time to breathe and offer you some tips on how to change the look of those bikinis in your drawer!

You all have those string bikinis in your drawer that may be a bit older or a little boring (if you purchased them somewhere other than from Belo Sol ;)) and you would like to just get rid of them, well here`s a better solution then throwing them out (unless of course they desperately need to be thrown out!) Get out those Belo Sol or other brand of bikinis you have and let`s transform them!

Now take the top and flip it so that the bottom is now tied around your neck:

or Cross it and tie around your neck:
Here`s a couple of different looks for the ``bandeau`` style suits:

Take the part that normally ties behind your back, cross and tie around your neck, tie other string around back. Now this style is definitely not for wave riding...only pool sitting. It`s a little crazy, but oh so unique! (Also, this is a large suit on small mannequin...looks a little better if the suit fits you! Which yours should!)

Here`s a true sun tanning design, tie behind back or tie in bow in front...No beach volleyball while sporting this style either!

Loop in a knot and tie to the string in the back for another sexy look!

Here are a few tips for tying your bikini nice and tight for playing in the waves, running down the beach or jumping up to spike the ball into the sand...

Cross in the back and instead of just tying behind your neck, pull each string down to meet the string in back. Tie in knots to back string tightly...obviously you will need some help with this one!

Same idea on this one, just tie all strings in one big tight knot...then go run into the waves without fear!

There`s a few tips, now go try it and while you are in your bathing suit drawer...pull out the OLDEST, UGLIEST SUIT that you own. Now dont throw it away yet, send me a pic, I will post a few of them here and at the end of May, I will pick a winner of the Oldest & Ugliest BIKINI contest! Airdrie Home and Garden Show!

Earth Day is Here...So Is The Snow Again!

Happy Earth Day!

I think I said that way back in March when I mistook Earth Hour for Earth Day, oh well...everyday should be Earth Day.

I just looked outside and it seems as though Mother Nature has decided to celebrate by throwing some crazy white "confetti!" Not again! Yesterday we were flip flopping around dreaming of summer days, today back to the snow boots and winter nights by the fire!

Moving on from the nasty spring weather to happier thoughts of shopping, earth friendly ideas and Brand New Bikinis!

Belo Sol made a great showing this past weekend at the Women's Show and would like to thank all of her wonderful friends that helped make it happen. Jenna, for booth design and set up, Sarah for set up, assisting at booth and photography (a sneak peak below), Vanessa for assisting and cashier, Tatti for chatting up all of the wonderful ladies that came by, Janice for the exact same thing and for taking the picture with Paul Williams and Maureen for being awesome in her orange pants! Also, my models Dallas, Carmen, Lisa and Sarah...you were great thanks so much.

Happy Belated Easter and Merry Christmas!

Ola!

You are probably wondering why I'm saying Merry Christmas? Well, if you live in Calgary and the surrounding area, we have officially plunged back into Winter. Yes, after 20 degree weather over Easter, as it should be, we now have about 5 centimeters of snow again. It's so painful, however, I am going to ignore the fact that we are supposed to start golfing today and focus on warm thoughts and bikinis of course! Speaking of bikinis (!) as promised, here are a few pics of some of the new Banco de Areia bikinis that (keep your fingers crossed) will be in this week! Many exciting things are coming up for Belo Sol and the next couple of weeks are busy, busy, busy! The Calgary Women's Show is this weekend and I am hoping that it all comes together before Friday! Earth Hour Recap!

Oi!

I wanted to start by clarifying my blog from Friday, March 27th. I accidently called it Celebrating Earth Day, when in fact Earth Day isn't actually until April 22nd! I meant Earth Hour! However, I would love to hear if you did in fact turn off your lights on Saturday night and so would the World Wildlife Fund. Go to http://www.panda.org/ and find out what happened after over 4000 towns and cities in 88 countries turned out the lights.

My husband and I lit candles, poured a glass of wine, relaxed and chatted for over an hour. It was a nice peaceful moment and we hope to try to do this at least once a month. I also turned off all of my power bars, which I am trying to do everynight before we go to bed too, keeping in mind, every little bit counts!

Onto the new and exciting things happening with Belo Sol! I promised pictures of the finished boutique awhile back and here are a few:

There are still a few things to finish up, like hanging pictures, trim and to find just the right rugs, however it has a great feeling already! I have had positive feedback from all of my clients that have visited me here and it is so nice to have a comfortable and beautiful place to host my wonderful ladies!

Celebrate Earth Day by Turning Out Your Lights

Most of you may have already heard (at least I hope you have!) that tomorrow is Earth Day and to show your support, you and everyone around the world are asked to turn out your lights at 8:30pm.

Because I believe in protecting our Earth and doing everything in our power to reverse the effects that we have had on it, I am offering an Earth Day special!

Havaianas Recall

Today I needed to post a Recall for Children's Havaianas. Although, I have not sold the baby or children's Havaianas to the public, I feel it is my duty to let all parents know about this Flip Flop recall. Please be advised that the information is for American consumers. Contact the store where you purchased them or Havaianas Canada to find out what to do.

Recalled: Children's Havaianas flip-flops

Tue, Mar 3, 2009 (BabyCenter News) — Alpargatas USA has announced a recall of about 210,000 Havaianas children's flip-flops in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Decorative paint on the sole of the flip-flops can contain levels of lead in excess of the federal standard. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health effects. No injuries have been reported.

The recall involves the following flip-flops of the Havaianas brand containing decorative paint: Baby Estampas, Baby Pets, Kids Apple, Kids Fairy, Kids Flores, Kids Lighthouse, Kids Monsters, Kids Surf, Baby Letrinhas, Kids Sports, Kids Candies, Kids Fun, Kids Love, Kids Sereias, Kids Speed, Kids Lucky Bug, Kids Pets, Kids Rock, Kids Slim, Kids Wonder Woman, Kids Small Flowers, and Kids Tropical w/Kit.

Havaianas flip-flops without decorative paint are not being recalled.

The flip-flops were sold in department and specialty stores nationwide from November 2006 through February 2009 for about $15 to $24 a pair. They were made in Brazil.

• Take the flip-flops away from your child immediately and return them to Alpargatas USA to receive a replacement.

St. Patty's Day, San Fran and Me

Well I'm just stopping by to say a belated Happy St.Patty's Day to everyone! I didn't get to the chance to get to the computer yesterday as it was a full day of celebrations...I won't chat much today I will just share some of my favorite photos from yesterday. I will be back this weekend with some fun info about our time here as well as showing off some of the new stuff that will be arriving soon! We started off the day at the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park...our main goal was to check out the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit...fabulous collection of his amazing pieces. Unfortunately, no pictures allowed! But we did check out some of the contemporary art show above, this is all glass piece the front being the face and you look through the back and see two other faces...it was absolutely incredible. Then up to the observatory to check out the city...Next to Ghirardelli Square to pick up some famous chocolate and head to the Buena Vista for some fabulous Irish Coffee...it is said to be created right here...wow...it was incredible! http://www.thebuenavista.com/ check it out, I will definitely be making some of these when I get home!

Then a hike up the streets of San Fran...Alcatraz and the famous Lombard Street, the ``crookedest`` street in the world! My calves are still hurting from walking the streets!

This was so funny...as I`m walking along the streets a random lost Havaiana was sitting on the sidewalk, I had to snap a pic! I wonder where it`s mate was...

Enough was enough with the walking...had to hop on the trolley!

So much fun!

Off to dinner and drinks for the rest of the night! Fabulous day St. Patty`s Day and Birthday!

The San Francisco Treat...

Nope, not Rice-a-Roni...I prefer the other amazing treat that comes from this area...Wine!

I've chosen to write a little bit about San Franciso and The Napa Valley as that is where I am off to this weekend! Very excited to get out of the cold and into some wine tasting. It is my birthday on March 17th so my husband is taking me to the Napa Valley for the weekend. Then back to San Fran, where he has a conference...I've never been and I'm really excited.

Here's a few facts and info about the area that I have learned:

San Fran:

It is the most expensive city in the United States (hopefully there will be some deals to be had now!)

The Golden Gate bridge is painted with "Orange Vermillion," or International Orange. It was painted to blend in with the background/context of where the bridge is

Travel to San Fran if you are going for whether April-October, less crowds in the Winter but will most definitely be raining! ( I'm packing my rain gear)

Napa and the Vineyards:

Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay took first place in a Paris Wine Tasting completely confusing the French judges (Learned this from the movie Bottleshock...if you liked Sideways, see it! Brilliant!)

March is Mustard season...the Bed and Breakfasts are still boasting inexpensive "off-season" rates and apparently the fields are a glow with bright mustard flowers. The pic above is from the owner of the Beazley House Bed and Breakfast that we are staying at. This is a pic of Frog's Leap Vineyards!

I have been asking around about bringing back wine from Napa and apparently it is not a big deal at all...just make sure you claim it at customs and you will pay a small amount in GST! That is the best news I have ever heard! Its time to restock the wine cellar!

I should run now, too many things to do before I go. Have to take my advice again for packing my carry on...always take too much. Off I go to pack!

International Women's Day

Oi!

I am going to start by letting everyone know that my server has been down since Tuesday morning, so if you have been trying to get on my website or email me, sorry...hopefully it will be back up today sometime.

I might just take today off and celebrate International Women's Day which is on March 8th. Here's a few facts about this wonderful day:

The inital stimulus for a Women's Day came from New Zealand in 1893, as they were the first country in the world to give Women the right to vote

The first International Women's Day occurred on March 19th, 1911 after Clara Zetkin (Leader of the 'Women's Office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) proposed the idea of celebrating a "Women's Day" (the year before) to show support for women's demands
Word of mouth helped spread International Women's Day across the world (of course we are great at word of mouth right?!)
Meetings were organized in towns and villages everywhere...men stayed at home to take care of the kids (Freedom at Last!)

Carnaval!!!

Well all I have to say today is Happy Terca-feira Gorda, Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday etc!
I wish I could say that I was in Rio the past couple of days, celebrating, however I haven't been, my computer was kidnapped by my Accountant and therefore I could not chat about Carnaval until now.
Here's a couple of facts about today and about Brazilian Carnaval. I have posted a video below of my brush with Carnaval. When I was there we went to the "dress rehersal" without the "dress" at the "sambadrome." What an amazing experience and I can only imagine what the real thing is like. My favourite Samba School: Salguiero...this year so beautiful with an amazing African theme.
Check out my amateur video! I'm standing right beside the Bateria, hence the terrible sound. In person, it is absolutely intense and amazing!

Rio Carnaval:

Samba schools compete against each other for bragging rights for the year. The schools will practice dance, music, singing and costumes for 8 months before Carnaval. Dancers can number up to 4000 for each school, then there are the Bateria members (band members). The celebration occurs for four days before Ash Wednesday and in Rio it is the most grandiose party anywhere!

The Sambadrome is the most famous stretch of street in Brazil. Here is where I saw the "dress rehearsal" as you see above. It's the length of probably 12 football fields! For two nights this stretch of street will house over 75 000 spectators and thousands of performers.

Costumes are always elaborate and amazingly heavy! Feathers are a prominent piece in the costumes as they symbolize the Brazilians rise above despair.

Today, no matter where you are...go out and celebrate. Forget about everything bad in the world and transform your day into a Brazilian Carnaval, guaranteed you will be smiling for days! Dance, dress up, play a drum or musical instrument (forget about the snow on the ground!)

Unforgettable Valentines'

Oi!

I am back and thought I would share our Valentine's Day with you. It was a relaxing but tiring day, as we lazed around for the morning and went crazy with renos at night! We had decided to make dinner at home and I tried to figure out a fun way to do this. So I chose to make appetizers and dessert and Mike took the main course. We searched through different cookbooks and found International Cuisine for all of the courses. Now keep in mind we were going to "share" the dinner making...well, Mike ended up getting on a role with painting in the basement and I ended up making it all. Now if you know me, I don't cook a lot or let's say I don't enjoy cooking a lot. This was a big deal for me as the prep and cooking for a salad, appetizer and main course took about 3 hours. We ended up eating a truly European Meal as we didn't start until 11:00 at night! So here's the menu:

We started with cocktails, first with Caipirinha (no pic sorry) and then with this wonderfully bright and festive Kir (Aligote and Creme de Cassis)

We drank the Kir with a Fig and Goat Cheese pastry, which I did not take a pic of because I cheated and bought them...! They were a great pairing with the Kir though (hint, you can buy them in the frozen section at Superstore!)

Next was a Sweet Potato, Argula and Spiced Walnut Curry Salad. Wow, it was an amazing salad however prep time is a little excessive. I was full after eating this though! If you want the receipe, drop me a comment or an email

Ta Da!! The main course: Italian Stuffed Crepes! So originally I was only supposed to help with the making the crepe part of this dish, however because Mike continued to paint, I actually ended up making the whole thing. Which is okay because Mike is worth it! It was an amazing dish, however by the time we got to eat I could only eat a half of one crepe! Hahaha...

You are probably wondering where dessert is? Well, I was too exhausted to make it, however it was going to be a Brazilian Chocolate Coffee Pie. Would have been sooo good, but we settled for a square of dark chocolate and a glass of wine...just as good and a lot less work! And besides we had to put the second coat of paint on the boutique walls and if we had dessert we would have been done for the night!

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day, ours was an amazing day, I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Keep this idea in mind for the next V-day or any day where you want to have a nice dinner. Go way outside the box and pick dishes from all over the world to make, don't worry about pairing the tastes, if it was made with love, it's all good.
